The Launch of the Currach

It was a balmy Sunday morning in March on the shores of Windermere (not often you hear those words together!), as the intrepid three - Edward Acland, Ian Pettman and Steve Tomlin - launched their replica Irish currach, built especially for the Working Woodlands event at Farfield Mill, open throughout April, 2012. It lived up to its promise, floating beautifully, handling like a thoroughbred, and succeeding in taking a variety of folk - young and old, in various combinations - out on the water for over an hour. You can see this wonderful craft at the Mill, alongside images of the whole process from start to launch.

There's also an article on the Guardian's "The Northerner Blog". You can read it here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/the-northerner/2012/mar/22/currach-windermere-coppicing-sedbergh-farfield-mill
